A Letter to Democrats

Dear Democrats,

It's not often I offer my opponent advice on how to beat me, but considering I am but a small voice in the political realm and you're very stubborn in your liberal ways, I am offering you some ways to improve your party and with the 2006 and 2008 races. Here goes.

- Get rid of Dean. The DNC head is giving your party a horrible image. His words serve as terriffic ammo for the right-wing pundits and talkshow hosts. A more suitable leader would be left of center, not left of liberal. Fire Dean and put up...say... Liberman... and become the new party of the people. Each side is looking to gain that undecided vote, and having Dr. Dean up there leading the ultra-left agenda is not a way to win those types of votes.

- Learn from Dean. Grassroots campaigning is now the wave of the political future. Be the party that passes out flyers, raises money online, and calls people up for contributions. Not only is it cleaner (no lobbyists taking you on golf trips), but it will raise more money and bring more voters.

- Get a younger look. MTV has their "Rock the Vote" thing every few years and attempts to get out younger voters. For the most part, younger voters lean left. This is your chance. Give up on trying to elect old fogies like Reid and Boxer. Barack Obama is an up-and-comer that is popular with the youger crowd along with the black voters. Your man Paul Hackett was a huge success and could be your ticket to winning key states like Ohio.

- Be the bigger man. In your campaigns, put out positive and patriotic ads. Leave the attacks on Republicans to the bloggers and Al Franken. Getting a hit radio show that isn't ultra-left wouldn't hurt either.

- Revamp your immigration and abortion policy. Immigration is going to be a big issue in the next few years. Bush has yet to really jump on it. Take a cue from Hillary and come out and say what America wants to hear - "put an end to illegal immigration." All abortions - All the time is not the answer. Typically, Americans don't like abortion but are willing to let women have the right as long as it's necessary. A good idea would be to come out against partial-birth.

- Have an answer to a problem. I know it's tough being the minority in all three branches, but have a solution. Come up with a well-thought-out policy on what to do in Iraq, gas prices, and other key issues. Bashing the administration and the majority will not get you votes, it will only make you seem ultra-liberal and ensure your stay as the minority party.

I know this is a lot of work. You would basically change your entire party. But these are just a few ideas to help you win votes to become the party of the people and take over the house in 2006 and the senate and white house in 2008. Hopefully, no one important will read this and take my advice. But if they do, and the donkeys take over, don't blame me.

Sincerely,
Rich

The letter was anything but soul searching. I truly hope Democrats stick with the far-left dogma they cling to so well, for I wish the party I most agree with a victory in all three branches over the next many years/decades. I would love to see more than a two party system, but the American love for competition between two people or parties is bound to weed out a third party.

Your pessimism shines through with every post and comment. Like Steven Colbert says, "Nobody likes a gloomy guss." Keep up the neo-con branding, "election-thief" mentality, and the evil evil Republican mantra and you'll keep the Democrats where they have been the last decade (and where I feel they belong)... the minority.

Good article Rich.

The re-tread "stolen election" tinfoil hat statements I hear just floor me.

The 2000 election boils down to this: The off-planet minds that think that Bush stole the 2000 election is propped-up by the misguided and totally WISHFUL thought that Gore had the right to offer up a recount of the counties in dispute or the whole state for that matter, and that Bush refused to take him up on the offer (because he, wink, had Catherine Harris and his brother Jeb there to take care of things, wink!). God forbid that the WRITTEN and VOTED-ON LAW should be enforced! Propositions C & D in Colorado are perfect examples of just this deep-pocket, over-throw the voter's rights because it feels good phenomenon, but I digress.

The bottom line is IT WASN'T GORE'S TO OFFER! There is neither a federal provision for a candidate to "okay" a recount, nor was there -- and this is the most important issue -- a provision in Florida law that allowed for a candidate to offer, or okay, or sanction, or suggest, or enforce a recount.

Get this through your heads ... take the tinfoil hat off so this gets through:

#1: IT WAS NOT GORE'S TO OFFER.
#2: There was NO Republican effort to supress the minority vote. The Republicans WANT the minorities to vote more than the Democrats do!
#3: Bush was reelected by THE PEOPLE. When you say "they elected him" you are talking about ME. I voted for him. He kicked Kerry's butt.

Get it? Got it? I thought not.

On the topic of the 2000 election, I looked into the case of Bush v. Gore. Had I been a SCOTUS justice, I honestly would have ruled with the dissenters for two reasons: like you said, there was no reason for SCOTUS to hear the case & in this one case, like the state supreme court said, "what does it hurt to give them more time to count?" That being said, had all of the votes been counted I truly believe Bush would have taken the election by a few thousand votes. But, if you're looking for a thief - you'll find one.

If you don't find what you want, manipulate the information.
