Thursday Round Up
Today's my 'Friday' and tomorrow's my half-day off.
HuffPo was abuzz yesterday with breaking news that the richest two percent of the world hold one-half the world's assets. Neil Boortz has some good commentary about it. My question: When are they going to do a study that shows how many jobs the poorest fifty percent have created. Or perhaps the ratio of taxes paid by the top two percent versus the bottom fifty percent? (FYI: The top one percent pay 34.27% of America's taxes.) Assets are earned, not dispersed... except in Communist countries. Shall we try that out for a while?
If you haven't seen Fast Food Nation, check it out. Though I originally expected it to be a documentary on how evil fast food chains and corporations are, it was still worth my time as a based-on-the-book fiction story. The movie hits on all the bleeding-heart talking points from illegal immigration to poor working conditions to the cleanliness of your food. Finally, a movie to top Fahrenheit 9/11! (A buddy tells me An Inconvenient Truth is better, though.)
Did you know that foreign troops were operating secret detention centers in Mississippi? (CAUTION: Only enter site with tin foil on head.)
The Vice President's daughter is pregnant. I hope Mary Cheney's partner, Heather Poe, knows it's not hers. Otherwise, that would be an awkward conversation.
Crikey! Check out a great video of the most dangerous IED Hunter in the world.
